Baltimore Box Lacrosse League - Championship Saturday

20 November 2004
Championship Schedule - The Canton Cup
1 PM Dewalt v Pickled Parrot
2 PM PJ's Pub v Scion
3 PM Winner 1PM v Toyota
4 PM Break time
5 PM Winner 2PM v Winner 3PM

In a tightly played game, #5 seed Pickled Parrot upset #4 seed Dewalt by a 5-4 score. Dewalt had posession of the ball with time winding down and they decided to pull their goalie to bring on an extra attacker who left the bench early and was in the offensive zone before their goalie was in the substitution area. They were called for too many men and the game was over. This sent Dewalt home early and the Parrot to a match at 3PM against #1 seed Toyota.

The 2 PM game of PJ's Pub v Scion was equally tight, requiring overtime to determine a winner. In the end it was a triumphant team Scion by a score of 10-9. This sent team Scion to the Championship game to be played at 5 PM but they would have to await the outcome of the next game to determine their opponent.

The 3 PM game started off with some solid goaltending and low scoring as it was only 2-1 in favor of Toyota at the end of the first period. Both teams were aggressive and neither would yield an inch but in the end the Pickled Parrot was again triumphant by a score of 7-5.

It would be #2 seed Scion versus #5 seed Pickled Parrot for the championship.

In the Championship, Scion jumped out to an early lead over the Parrot and led by one or two for most of the game. Late in the game the Parrot staged a comeback. Down by 2 goals with around three minutes to go in the game they were able to close within one. The ensuing faceoff was scooped up by Scion and it appeared they might be able to run out the clock as there was only about 1:30 left in the game. The Parrot managed to regain control of the ball and call a time out with just over a minute left in the game. As play resumed the Pickled Parrot cage was empty and they had 6 attackers on the field. The whistle blew and the ball moved up into the offensive end, a few passes around the perimeter, a cut from the left side of the floor, a feed to the crease, and a goal! The Pickled Parrot had tied the game with less than 30 seconds remaining. The ensuing face-off was tied up and time expired putting the game into overtime. Both teams had a chance to win it before the Pickled Parrot finally sealed the deal on their second possession. Final score 8-7.

Congratulations to all the teams and the 2004 Baltimore Box Lacrosse Champions - the Pickled Parrot.

A few more pics. Some film pictures were also taken of the semifinal game between PJ's and Scion but they will have to wait until development and scanning.
